Miami, Fl (November 7, 2016) - The 25,000 ecstatic fans at the Metallica concert on November 1, 2016, in Bogota, Colombia, not only got to listen to the legendary thrash metal band while the group visited the country, promoting their new album Hardwired...To Self-Destruct, but also got the band members to support in a drive to collect non-perishable foods for the Wayuu, an indigenous community in La Guajira in the northern region of Colombia.  Nine tons (9,000 kilos) of food were collected for the Wayuu children, who suffer from malnutrition, as well as food for abandoned animals.

The Initiative

This initiative began with Metallica's fans in Colombia, headed by the "Lords of Hardwire."  Move Concerts, the promoters of the concert, not only seconded the idea and passed the information along to Metallica, but also promised to spread the word about the food drive.

More than 3,000 children in La Guajira have died as a result

of malnutrition

The fans attending the concert were asked to donate non-perishable food items to the Wayuu community in La Guajira, an area in the northern part of Colombia.  Between 2008 and 2016 about 3,000 children in the Wayuu community have died because of malnutrition or because of other diseases associated with inadequate food intake.

The food collected was donated to the Challenger Foundation (Fundación Challenger), a group that for years has been focused on childhood nutrition.

Help for abandoned pets as well

The Furry Hearts (Corazones Peluditos), an independent organization of more than 40 families dedicated to rescuing, feeding, providing medical care, and finding new homes for abandoned animals, was also included in this initiative.

The beloved Doris from Metallica was also present in the Los Andes Stadium in Bogota, Colombia

And as if the return to Bogota by the greatest hard rock group in the world was not enough, Move Concerts together with Colombia's Metallica Fan Club and with the support from Tecate beer,  created a statue of Doris, the blind figure representing the impartiality of justice, for fans to use as a photo op prior to the concert. This reproduction of Doris, which can also be seen on the cover of the band's 1988 album, And Justice For All, was a huge hit with the fans and was carried by fans into the concert where "she" crowd surfed. This was mentioned in international media outlets as well.

Metallica took the statue home!
